RallySim Challenge 2010
The Streetly Motor Club RallySim challenge is a new competition for SMC members that uses a PC driving simulator to challenge members across a number of virtual rallies run over the year. The simulator is challenging, with realistic handling and car physics – it is not like an arcade game but requires restraint and skill to drive fast successfully. SMC use a steering wheel and pedals – including a clutch and gearstick – in conjunction with a real bucket seat to make the experience as ‘real’ as is practical. Coupled with a large projector and a dark room, everyone who has tried it agrees it is great fun!
The following events and dates make up the challenge :-
| Event | Class | Date |
| Round 1 | 1400 | May 5th 2010 |
| Round 2 | 1600 | July 7th 2010 |
| Round 3 | 2000 | September 1st 2010 |
| Round 4 | WRC | November 3rd 2010 |
Rules & Regulations
The RallySim Challenge will comprise of 4 events spread over the year. Each event will take place on a regular club night at the Castle Hotel in Tamworth. Drivers will take it in turns to attempt to record the fastest time on a rally stage, using the PC Simulator game “Richard Burns Rally”, steering wheel and pedals. At the end of the event, scores are awarded to competitors in order of total stage times. Scores at each round will be accumulated over the year, and 1st/2nd/3rd positions will receive awards at the annual SMC Awards Do.
- Only paid-up Streetly members may enter the events. All membership types are allowed, including social members.
- All competitors must sign on before competing. Valid club membership cards should be presented at signing-on.
- The number of stages per event will be decided on the evening based on the number of competitors and the time available.
- Entries for each event close at 9pm on the evening of the event. Any competitor not signed on before this time may be refused entry.
- Given sufficient time, an event may comprise multiple different stages and/or multiple runs of the same stage.
- Pace notes are called from within the simulator game itself.
- A time car will traverse the stage before all competitors, and the run will be observed by all. Competitors are free to make separate pace notes if they so wish.
- Given sufficient time, recce runs may be allowed. In such scenarios, competitors will be allowed to take their own pace notes with the assistance of another SMC member. That SMC member will not be eligible for any additional points in his/her role as co-driver.
- Competitors will run in order of convenience for the simulator – that is, body height. This is to minimise the number of adjustments made between individual runs. The organisers reserve the right to change the running order as they see fit.
- Cars and competitors will not be given God-like status of invulnerability. The simulator will be played as per ‘real-life’. Mechanical failures or incidents rendering the car unable to complete the stage will be deemed as retirement from the event.
- In order to ensure the timely running of an event, stages will be given a target time. If the competitor goes over the target time, their competitive run will be halted and they will be given the target time.
- All competitors will receive the same number of runs on exactly the same stages.
- Competitors are requested to be kind and gentle to their vehicle and its equipment.
- Competitors are not required to enter all the events within the championship; they may enter as many or as few as they wish.
- Should the final results of the championship result in a draw, a drive-off between the tying competitors will be used to decide the winner, with the fastest time over a set stage winning.
- Any competitor found cheating or employing tactics against the spirit of the competition will be penalised at the discretion of the Clerk of the Course, up to and including exclusion.
The point scoring system is as follows :-
|
Starting the event |
5 pts |
|
1st place |
6 pts |
|
2nd place |
4 pts |
|
3rd place |
2 pts |
|
…and for each competitor beaten |
1 pt |
Therefore if you came third on an event, with a total of 10 people entered, you would score 14 points (5+2+7).
