How to fit an aerial mast to a Frontera's bull Bar

There's going to be an occasion where that 2 foot steel whip aerial is just not going to perform it's duty. A second option is to fit a di-pole aerial to the top of a mast. The problem being, how to secure the mast. Here's my prototype solution.

The upper mount is self explanatory

The lower mount comprises two arms, that swing out and are then fixed by a pin at the correct distance from the front of the vehicle to allow the mast to be vertical.

The weight of the mast actually rests on the ground, with the upper and lower mounts only being used to steady the mast.

(A future version will see the lower assembly fitted above the horizontal bull bar tube, with a sturdier hinge mechanism and perhaps some adjustment holes to allow for uneven ground)

In use, a 4' pole is fitted to the mounts, then the remaining assembled mast is located into into the top of that. The final assembly really is quite solid.

Material used

  • 2x 32mm exhaust clamps

  • 4x 42mm exhaust clamps

  • selection of M8 nuts & bolts

  • selection of 1" steel tube (angle should suffice)

TIP - Remember to affix the aerial cable before erecting the remainder of the mast.
